Netanyahu’s Chief of Staff Gets Questioned in Leak Probe

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, has been detained and interrogated by police over suspicions that he attempted to obstruct an investigation into the leak of a classified military intelligence document to a German tabloid.

According to a media outlet Braverman was questioned for nearly 13 hours on Sunday before being released under restrictive conditions.

These include a 15-day prohibition from entering the Prime Minister’s Office and a 30-day travel ban. The restrictions may postpone his appointment as Israel’s ambassador to the UK, a position he was approved for last year.

The controversy stems from a September 2024 publication by the tabloid, which released a secret intelligence paper claiming that Hamas was unwilling to pursue a hostage deal with Israel.

Netanyahu’s former spokesman, Eli Feldstein, was arrested in October 2024 and charged with leaking the document.

Feldstein later alleged that Netanyahu backed efforts to use the leak to strengthen public arguments for intensifying pressure on Hamas.

Feldstein also asserted that Braverman had prior knowledge of the covert investigation into the leak and assured him it could be “shut down.”

During Braverman’s questioning on Sunday, the two reportedly had a brief encounter, according to a broadcaster.

Braverman’s attorney stated afterward that his client “answered all the investigators’ questions, and denied every invented version of events put forward by the defendant [Feldstein].”
